Many countries vie with each other for the right to be called the birthplace of baklava - a honey-soaked puff pastry stuffed with nuts - and Greece and the entire Middle East. The sweetness is very high in calories, but extremely tasty. In order to taste this delicacy, you do not have to go somewhere, you can cook classic Turkish baklava at home on your own.

It is necessary

    • Melted margarine - 1 tbsp.;
    • water - 1 tbsp.;
    • chopped walnuts
    • or pistachios - 1 tbsp.;
    • lemon - 1 pc.;
    • eggs - 2 pcs.;
    • sugar - 750 gr.;
    • flour - 250 gr.;
    • corn starch.

Instructions

Step 1

To make puff pastry, sift flour. Dissolve salt in a glass of room temperature water and combine with flour. Knead well and cover with a damp cloth. Set aside the dough as long as it takes to prepare the filling.

Step 2

Chop the nuts. This, of course, can be done with a meat grinder, but this will leave a lot of product in the machine. It is better to use a rolling pin for these purposes.

Step 3

Divide the dough into ten portions.

Step 4

Brush a baking sheet with melted butter. Roll out the dough thinly, sprinkling the rolling pin and board with starch. To prevent the dough from tearing, transfer it with a rolling pin, winding the dough over it with a roll. Grease each layer with melted margarine.

Step 5

When the stack is 5 sheets on the baking sheet, add the nuts. Roll the remaining pieces of dough just as thinly, brush with butter and lay on top of the filling.

To make baklava, you can also use yeast puff pastry, which can be found on sale in any supermarket, but a pie made from dough made with your own hands is much tastier.

Step 6

Use a sharp knife to cut the baklava, dividing it into squares.

Step 7

Pour the remaining melted butter over the cake, being careful to do it evenly.

Step 8

Baklava should be baked in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for 50 minutes.

Step 9

While the cake is in the oven, it is necessary to prepare the sugar syrup. To do this, pour sugar into a bowl, pour in such an amount of water that it is slightly more than sugar.

Heat the water separately, put a lemon in it for a few seconds. Cut it open and squeeze out 1 tablespoon of juice. After heat treatment, it is easier to squeeze juice from lemon or other citrus fruits and its amount increases. Add juice to sugar water. Place the pot on the stove and boil the thick syrup.

Step 10

Hot ready-made baklava is poured with syrup slowly and carefully along the cut line so that the cake has time to absorb the sweet liquid. Baklava is served cold. Some chefs keep it in the refrigerator.
