The fruits of figs, a subtropical deciduous ficus, have been eaten by humans for a long time. Ripe figs are used to make jam and jam. You can also make a delicious side dish that goes well with chicken.
It is necessary
-
- 1.8 kg of ripe figs;
- 3 carnation buds;
- star anise stars;
- 5 long peppers or 10 black and allspice peas;
- 1/2 vanilla pod;
- 100 g unsalted butter;
- 200 g of honey;
- orange
- lime
- lemon;
- 0.5 l dry nutmeg.
Instructions
Step 1
Rinse the purchased figs with running water and cut off the hard tails with a knife. Then lightly cut each fruit in a crisscross pattern for best baking. Then put it on a baking sheet or baking dish, lay the fruits in dense rows.
Step 2
Take a saucepan, preferably one with a thick bottom, and melt the butter in it. Then add honey and caramelize. To caramelize means to cook some product over low heat, in this case honey (which contains sugar). When cooking, the sugar begins to turn into caramel, in a word - the mass becomes golden brown. Prepare the spices. Add them to a cooking dish.
Step 3
For this recipe, ideally use lime, orange, and lemon together. But if some of these products are not there, it's okay. Cut a piece of zest from each citrus and place them in the cooking mass after the spices. Stir the mixture constantly. As soon as it becomes the desired caramel shade, pour in the nutmeg. If you haven't found it in the store, it is quite possible to replace the nutmeg with white wine.
Step 4
Squeeze out lemon, orange and lime juice. Once the mixture is thick enough with a brownish tint, add the squeezed juice. Then let the mixture evaporate a little more. For convenience, you can pour it into a skillet. After it is ready, strain everything through a sieve. This will remove the zest and spices.
Step 5
Preheat oven to 180 degrees. As soon as you put a baking sheet with figs there, immediately reduce the temperature to 150 degrees. After that, periodically water it with the resulting mixture so that it is completely saturated with it. Cooking time for figs is about an hour.
Step 6
Use the finished product not only as a side dish for duck, but also as an addition to ice cream or cheese. It is quite possible to use it without any other main dishes.
