Pumpkin is not only a healthy vegetable, but also very tasty. To appreciate all the advantages, you need to know how to use it correctly in cooking. There are not so many recipes as we would like, but those that exist will not leave anyone indifferent. For example, sweet and aromatic candied fruits from pumpkin and orange.
It is necessary
- Pumpkin - 1 kg
- Orange - 1 pc.
- Sugar - 600 g
- Cinnamon - 1 stick
- Powdered sugar - 100 g
- Citric acid - 3 - 4 g
Instructions
Step 1
Rinse the pumpkin, peel, remove all seeds with fibers from the center. Cut into 1, 5 * 1, 5 cm cubes. Place in a small saucepan, add 500 g of sugar. Mix everything well and leave for 24 hours at room temperature. During this time, the pumpkin should give juice.
Step 2
After a day, you can continue cooking candied fruits. You need to take a clean orange, cut it into pieces, remove the seeds. Then grind in a blender until smooth.
Step 3
Drain the pumpkin syrup into a metal ladle or small saucepan. Add sugar - 100 g, orange puree, cinnamon and citric acid there. Put on the stove and bring to a boil, stirring the mass. Add pumpkin cubes and simmer for three minutes over low heat. Remove from the stove, cool and repeat the procedure twice more. When finished, all the syrup should be absorbed. Place the cubes on a sieve to eliminate excess liquid and allow to cool.
Step 4
Prepare a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Place the cubes on it so that they do not touch each other. Place in a slightly open oven and keep there until dry. The temperature regime should be the lowest of all available. During the drying process, you need to ensure that the pumpkin does not burn. If frying begins to form, remove, let stand and put to dry again. The duration of the procedure depends on the functions of the oven. Fan mode is ideal, but you can do without it. An electric dryer will do even better.
Step 5
When the candied fruits are ready, you need to take them out of the oven and roll them in powdered sugar on all sides right on the sheet. After that, allow to cool completely and dry at room temperature. Fold the treat into a jar and close the lid. Shelf life of candied fruits is 12 months, but such yummy is eaten much earlier.
