Limoncello is one of the most popular Italian drinks. This sweet viscous liqueur with a delicate citrus flavor is especially loved by tourists. A couple of bottles brought from a tour is a great souvenir for yourself and close friends. But you don't have to go to Italy for a real limoncello - you can make an equally delicious drink yourself.

It is necessary

  • - 8-10 large lemons;
  • - 500 g of sugar;
  • - 2, 5 glasses of water;
  • - 2 glasses of 95% alcohol.

Instructions

Step 1

Limoncello has many virtues. This drink is rich in vitamin C and valuable essential oils. A small portion of lemon tincture increases appetite and aids in proper digestion of food. The main thing is not to overuse the tasty drink. One or two small glasses is the largest serving you can afford. Those who follow a diet should take into account that limoncello contains a large amount of sugar and is very high in calories.

Step 2

To make limoncello, purchase large, ripe lemons, preferably with a thin crust. Wash the fruit thoroughly with hot water and a brush before eating. Peel off the zest carefully - you will need about 120 g of zest to make limoncello. Place the peel strips in a glass jar and cover with alcohol. Close the container tightly and leave to infuse for 7-10 days. Shake the jar daily.

Step 3

After a week or 10 days, prepare the syrup. Pour water into a saucepan, add sugar. While stirring, bring the mixture to a boil and the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove the pan from heat and refrigerate the syrup. Strain the citrus tincture through 2 layers of cheesecloth and pour it into the syrup container. Squeeze the zest thoroughly so that all the essential oils get into the tincture.

Step 4

Stir the limoncello well and bottle it. Cork them and leave the drink for another 5-5 days. The drink can be served as an aperitif or a digestif, or added to cocktails. It is more delicious to drink limoncello chilled - it is poured into pre-frozen glasses or ice is added directly to the drink. With tincture, serve biscotti biscuits, sweet fruits and candied fruits.
