A lot of products are prepared in a water bath, from herbal decoctions to baby and diet food. Of course, it is much easier to use a double boiler for this process, but using a regular colander and a larger saucepan, you can get equally useful products.
Instructions
Step 1
If the house does not have a special two-level saucepan, the upper part of which is a container with through holes through which steam will penetrate, take a regular colander. You can also use a form without holes, the main requirement for it concerns only the fact that it must completely fit into a container with a large diameter.
Step 2
Pour enough hot water into a large saucepan so that it reaches the bottom of the colander or covers two-thirds of a solid container in it. It is important that when boiling, the water does not get into the container with the food, otherwise the whole effect of the water bath will be lost, all the useful substances from the product will go into the water.
Step 3
Place the pot on the fire and wait for the water to boil. Immerse the smaller container in which the food is located in the container. For meat patties or meatballs, you can lightly grease the colander with oil to prevent the mince from sticking.
Step 4
After boiling, reduce the heat and cover the pan with a lid, this will keep the temperature inside the container high enough. The readiness of the product is determined by testing and taking into account the recommendations of specific recipes. For vegetables, it takes 30-40 minutes, it all depends on their density. Cauliflower and carrots are stewed the longest. The meat takes longer to cook, but the thickness of the piece also plays an important role.
