Coconut is a fruit that grows on a coconut tree. For residents of the entire northern hemisphere, this plant remains exotic, but recently the fruits of this palm tree can increasingly be found on store shelves. The nut has a very hard shell, but this is a surmountable obstacle.
Instructions
Step 1
First of all, you need to pay attention to the three dark dots on the coconut. They usually resemble holes in a bowling ball. It is these points that are the most vulnerable spot of the coconut, despite the fact that the nut itself has a very strong shell. If not for these peculiar potholes, special tools were needed to open the coconut.
Step 2
Decide how you want to apply the coconut. If you need to drink coconut milk, just punch one hole in the dark point. To do this, pierce this point with a screwdriver or a large knife and insert a tube of a suitable diameter into it. Thus, you can enjoy a healthy drink, which is about 100 ml in a good coconut.
Step 3
If you need milk to prepare a dish (and it is very often used in Asian cuisine), then make two holes, otherwise you will have to wait a very long time for the liquid to flow out. Outwardly, milk is clear or slightly white water with a characteristic aroma. If you are sold an old stale coconut, it may not contain milk, but this is not often the case.
Step 4
To get the pulp, you need to chop the whole coconut. Take a hammer or a large knife (in this case, you need its handle) and lightly tap the surface of the nut near the three dark points. After about 20 strokes, you will see the fruit split and crack. If only a small crack appears, use the knife blade as a lever to split the coconut in half. Next, cut the pulp with a knife, divide into strips or cubes and serve. You can also make coconut flakes by finely grating the pulp cubes. If you manage to neatly split the coconut, the shell can be used for some craftwork or as a glass for exotic cocktails.
