Getting the cork out of the bottle can be tricky, even if you have a corkscrew. Without a corkscrew, this task seems insoluble to many. You are in the mood for a pleasant evening with a glass of wine, and there is nothing to open the bottle with. You can, of course, ask your neighbors, or you can try to cope on your own and with improvised items.

It is necessary

  • Brick wall
  • Towel
  • Screw or wood screw
  • Screwdriver
  • Pliers
  • Nail file, fountain pen, keys

Instructions

Step 1

Using a solid surface: Choose a solid, stable, vertical surface, such as a brick wall. Wrap any towel around the bottle so that it is not only comfortable for you to hold, but also so as not to get hurt by fragments if the bottle accidentally breaks. Hit the bottom of the bottle vigorously, rhythmically and decisively on the selected surface until the cork is mostly outside. Pull on the plug and remove it. Make sure that the plane you choose is firm enough to push the cork, but not so hard that the bottle breaks on it.

Step 2

Using the screw, screwdriver, and pliers, locate the long screw with deep grooves. Hold the bottle firmly and, using a screwdriver, screw the screw into the cork almost all the way, but so that the pliers have something to grip on. Take a pair of pliers and pull them up with one hand while holding the bottle firmly with the other. The whole procedure shouldn't take you more than a few minutes.

Step 3

Using any small, long, hard objects, find an iron nail file, screwdriver, or a long enough wrench. Sometimes even a ballpoint pen works. Place the item on the cork and slowly, with force, press the cork into the bottle. Be careful when the cork starts to give way, take care of your palms. If you press too hard, wine may sprinkle through the neck. When the cork is floating on the surface of the wine, slowly tilt the bottle to pour the wine into the glass. It will be difficult to pour only into the first glass, then the wine will flow easily.
