When buying in supermarkets and stores, many paid attention to the fact that some eggs are white and others are brown. Dark eggs usually cost a little more, and we prefer them, considering the product to be healthier and more nutritious. Is it really? We'll figure out.
Some people think that white eggs are manufactured and brown eggs are homemade. But if you look closely, you can see the markings on both types of product. And what is the difference then?
The color of the egg is determined by the color of the laying hen, that is, white eggs are laid by white hens, and brown eggs are laid by dark or pied hens.
Some price differences are due to the fact that brown chickens are larger and require more feed, which means that the price of the final product will be higher.
The strength of the shell does not depend on the color of the egg, but on the age of the hen. The younger the hen, the more calcium in the shell, the naturally stronger it is.
When choosing eggs, we give preference to larger ones, believing that there are more nutrients in large eggs. How is it really? Larger eggs are laid by older chickens, they have, in principle, the same amount of nutrients as in small ones, but there is much more water.
Which eggs are tastier: white or brown?
The taste of the product depends on the quality of the feed that the laying hen ate. The color of the yolk is due to the same.
For example, if you take two chickens, a white and a brown one, and feed them the same food, the hens will lay white and brown eggs, which will taste the same.
Chicken eggs are classified into four categories:
- С0 - the largest, but not the most nutritious eggs, slightly higher in price than all other types of eggs;
- C1 - eggs of the first grade, slightly smaller and cheaper than eggs of the highest category, but they are also laid by old laying hens;
- C2 and C3 - usually small eggs, weighing from 35 to 55 grams, they are laid by young layers, they are considered the most useful and nutritious, although their price is relatively lower than the cost of eggs of the two previous categories.
