Many people fell in love with the delicious crumbly Twix cookies with caramel and chocolate icing, but not everyone knows that they can be made at home from the most common products. This is a real delicacy for adults and little gourmets.
Homemade Twix Recipe
To make Twix at home, you need to take the following ingredients:
- 150 grams of flour;
- 80 grams of butter;
- 50 grams of granulated sugar;
- 1 tablespoon sour cream;
- 2 yolks;
- salt.
For caramel and chocolate glaze:
- 1 ½ cans of condensed milk;
- 15 grams of butter;
- 2 bars of milk chocolate.
First of all, you need to prepare chopped shortbread dough. To do this, sift the flour and mix with salt and sugar. Very well chilled butter (it is better to pre-freeze it in the freezer) cut into cubes, add to the flour mixture and chop the butter and flour with a large heavy knife to get coarse crumbs. You can do this with a food processor.
Then, stirring well, gradually add 2 egg yolks and a tablespoon of sour cream. The dough for homemade "Twix" should stick well, but at the same time be thick and crumbly.
Line the baking dish with parchment paper and pour in the prepared crumbs. Flatten, tamp and pierce with a fork in several places. Then place the mold in the refrigerator for half an hour. After this time has elapsed, transfer the form with the cake to an oven preheated to 180 ° C for 20 minutes. As soon as the cake becomes a pleasant golden color, remove it from the oven.
It is very important to prepare the caramel of the desired consistency. If you overexpose it on fire, the caramel will become too hard, and if not cooked, it will spread over the cake.
Make caramel and chocolate frosting. For caramel, pour condensed milk into a bowl with a thick bottom, add butter, put on a very low heat and, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon or spatula, cook for 20-30 minutes. As soon as the mass acquires a caramel shade and thickens, remove the dishes from the heat and spread the baked crust with the cooked caramel.
In a water bath, melt the chocolate (if desired, one bar of milk chocolate can be replaced with dark or bitter ones) and apply it on top of the caramel cake. Then put the prepared cake in the refrigerator for 2 hours. When the caramel with chocolate is well set, cut the homemade Twix into strips and serve.
Homemade unbaked Twix recipe
To prepare "Twix" according to this recipe you will need:
- 200 grams of finished shortbread cookies;
- 150 grams of butter;
- 6 tablespoons of cream;
- 1 can of condensed milk;
- 1 tablespoon of honey;
- 1 ½ bar of milk chocolate;
- ½ bar of white chocolate.
Melt 75 grams of milk chocolate in a water bath, add 2 tablespoons of cream, mix well, pour the mixture into a silicone mold, smooth and place in the freezer for 5 minutes to harden.
Grind shortbread cookies in a blender. Then mix it with 50 grams of softened butter and place in a silicone mold over the chocolate base. Align and tamp well, then refrigerate.
Make caramel. To do this, combine the condensed milk, honey and the remaining butter. Put on a very low heat and simmer for 20 minutes with continuous stirring. When the caramel thickens, remove from heat, cool and place evenly on the cookies. Then place the mold in the freezer for 5 minutes.
Until the icing is frozen, you can apply a pattern to it with a toothpick.
Melt the remaining milk and white chocolate separately in a water bath. Add 2 tablespoons of cream to each, stir and apply alternately (in the form of a "zebra") on the hardened caramel layer. Then put the mold in the refrigerator. When the chocolate has set, cut the layer into rectangular pieces and serve the Twix home-style to the table.
