Dry ice is a solid that is stored at temperatures below -70 degrees Celsius. It is impossible to produce large quantities of dry ice at home, but as an experiment, you can get a small dose of it.

Instructions
Step 1
To make dry ice at home, you need a fire extinguisher. Please note that a CO2-based fire extinguisher is suitable for this purpose. These devices are commonly used in domestic environments such as apartments, offices, restaurants, etc. When using a fire extinguisher, be sure to wear gloves, getting dry ice on your hand can cause frostbite. In addition, do not touch the bell and the connecting tube, when using a fire extinguisher, their temperature will drop to -72 degrees Celsius.
Step 2
Take a pillowcase and wrap it tightly around the nozzle and hose of the fire extinguisher. Wrap the pillowcase so that the ice does not loosen. The pressure of the fire extinguisher is not so great, it will not be difficult to hold the pillowcase, but for more confidence, you can secure it with duct tape.
Step 3
Tear off the fire extinguisher seal and pull out the pin. Press the lever and hold it for 2-3 seconds, you will be surrounded by thick steam, do not worry, this is normal. You won't get a lot of ice, but a small amount will accumulate on the inside of the pillowcase.
Step 4
Remove the pillowcase from the extinguisher while holding the nozzle firmly. On the inside of the pillowcase, you will find some dry ice in a loose, foam-like state. Try not to scatter the ice or touch it with your hands, it has a very low temperature, about -78 degrees Celsius. To get frostbite, just hold it for a few seconds.
Step 5
For long-term storage and to prevent freeze-drying of dry ice, transfer it to a cardboard box lined with thick foam. Try to prevent air circulation in it, for this, glue the joints of the foam with duct tape. If desired, the ice can be compacted using any flat object, such as a can or glass with a flat bottom.
