Press on the avocado rind with your finger. A dent will remain on the skin of an overripe fruit, and the skin of an unripe avocado will not give in to pressing at all. If the avocado is ripe, there will be a small dent on the skin that will soon disappear.

You can also identify a ripe avocado by the cuttings. Try breaking off the handle. In an unripe fruit, the stalk does not break off, or it breaks off with difficulty, and the flesh under the stalk has a light yellow-green color. If the flesh under the stem is brown, the avocado has time to overripe. A perfectly ripe avocado has bright green flesh under the handle, sometimes with brown streaks. It is even better if, with a slight pressure, a little juice is released through the trace from the removed cutting.

It is advisable to buy not perfectly round avocados, but slightly elongated ones. The elongated shape indicates that the fruit was not picked too green and that it was ripening on the tree. This type of avocado is tastier.

Depending on the degree of ripeness, the avocado may take 2 to 6 days to ripen. The ripening process should take place at room temperature, so do not put the avocado in the refrigerator. To speed up the ripening process, wrap each fruit in newspaper or kitchen paper towels.
