A jar of aromatic spices is a truly magical tool that allows you to turn an ordinary dish into an appetizing and delicious meal. Today in stores you can buy almost any spices and herbs, however, not everyone knows how to do it correctly.
Instructions
Step 1
Ready-made mixes for meat, fish or vegetable dishes are especially popular with housewives today. However, in addition to the spices themselves, these sets very often include preservatives and artificial flavors. Therefore, before buying spices and seasonings, carefully study the composition of the product, information about which is placed on the package.
Step 2
Do not forget that many spices have medicinal properties. And like any medicine, they may have their own contraindications. If you have allergic reactions, do not purchase spice mixes, as they may contain allergenic ingredients. Opt for the usual spices and herbs.
Step 3
Production and storage technologies also affect the quality of the spices. Saffron, cinnamon, sage, cayenne pepper and many other condiments should be packaged where they grow. In this case, the information on the packaging can serve as evidence of product quality. It is best if it contains the contact details of only two organizations: the manufacturer (packer) and the seller.
Step 4
A natural product is stored for no more than six months. Spices with a longer shelf life very often contain a set of preservatives. Therefore, you should be wary of seasonings and spices with a long shelf life.
Step 5
The storage period largely depends on the quality of the packaging. The more airtight it is, the longer the seasoning time will be. The bags or containers for spices themselves should be small so that the contents do not cake and are reliably protected from moisture. If you buy spices in bags, come home and open the package, pour the contents into a glass container. So the spices will not lose their aroma and retain their taste.
Step 6
Pay attention to the grinding of the spices. The fact is that too fine grinding allows unscrupulous manufacturers to add flour or starch to spices and seasonings. If you need finely ground spices, you can always use your home mill or coffee grinder.
