Finely chopped onions are required in many recipes. This is especially true for salads. This vegetable should slightly set off the taste, but not interrupt it in any way, as it happens when too large a piece of onion comes across.
It is necessary
- - Slicer;
- - knife with a wide long blade;
- - board.
Instructions
Step 1
The first way
Select the thin slices accessory and insert it into the grater. Stick the peeled onion onto the holder and cut into thin slices. Collect the resulting circles in a stack, divide it across to make half rings, put the stack on a cut and chop with a knife. You should get very small pieces.
Step 2
Second way
You will need a so-called chef's knife. It has a sharp, long, wide blade. Peel the onion without cutting off the base - the bottom. It will not allow the cut slices to "run away". Some cooks, on the other hand, leave behind a ponytail - a dried-up tip that used to be a green feather. It is more convenient to hold the onion for it, but in this case there is a problem with the layers sliding off. Still, it is more convenient to leave the bottom for thin slicing.
Step 3
Place the vegetable on the base, holding it with your fingers on both sides, make several vertical, parallel cuts to each other, not reaching the very bottom.
Step 4
Rotate the bulb and make several cuts perpendicular to the previous ones.
Step 5
Now, carefully so that the onion does not fall apart, put it on its side and chop it into thin slices.
Step 6
The cuts you made earlier will turn the slices into small pieces. All this time, squeeze the side of the bulb and hold it at the base.
Step 7
Third way
Divide the unpeeled onion in half lengthwise, cut off the top, peel. Do not cut off the bottom, as in the previous version.
Step 8
Cut each half across, not reaching the base, and then make several longitudinal cuts from top to bottom.
Step 9
Observe equal spacing so that the pieces are the same.
Step 10
The second and third methods are similar, the difference is that in the second, the whole onion crumbles at once, and in the third, half each. It is more convenient to chop in half for those who have not yet got used to it. Pros prefer to cut a whole vegetable at once.
