Squids live in almost all seas and oceans. Many species of these inhabitants of the deep sea are suitable for cooking. It is only important to know how long to cook squid.
Squids are valued not only for the presence of a large amount of vitamins and minerals in their composition, but also for the low calorie content of this product. 100 g of fresh squid contains only 75 kcal. But already in boiled squid, the nutritional value is 110 kcal.
When choosing this product, it should be borne in mind that squid meat is the strongest allergen and can cause allergic reactions in humans.
In stores today, you can buy both fresh and frozen squid. The latter option is much more common. When choosing squid, take into account that the fillet should have a white or slightly pink color. Otherwise, it is considered spoiled. Large types of squid are better suited for salads, but small carcasses are ideal for other dishes. In this case, frozen squids should be easily separated from each other. If the carcasses are stuck together in one mass, it means that they were frozen several times and it is undesirable to use such a product for cooking.
Squid can be cooked in a variety of ways: baking, pickling, and so on. But for maximum benefit and preservation of all vitamins, it is enough to simply boil them.
For this, the squid is properly defrosted. They are poured with cold water and placed in the refrigerator on the lower shelf. Then, after complete thawing, it is immersed in boiling water for 2-3 minutes. Further, under a stream of cold water from the tap, the film is removed from them and the internal cartilage is removed.
For cooking, the squid is dipped separately in boiling water and boiled for 2 minutes. If left for a longer period, then they will become very tough. To regain their softness, they will have to be cooked for another half hour.
You can also cook the squid unpeeled. In this case, they are placed in boiling water and the fire is turned off. Cover the saucepan with a lid and leave for 10 minutes. After this period of time, the carcasses will be ready for consumption.
Boiled squid can be used in salads or as a separate dish.
