Not trusting the quality of the finished product, many mothers independently prepare vegetable complementary foods for their child. Vegetables that have not been chemically processed or genetically modified should be chosen for mashed potatoes.

It is necessary

  • - Vegetables;
  • - Steamer;
  • - Blender.

Instructions

Step 1

To prepare the most healthy and high-quality vegetable puree for a child, choose ripe vegetables that are free of rot and cracks on the surface. Use cauliflower, zucchini or carrots for the first feeding that do not contain coarse fiber that can cause digestive upset in your baby. It is recommended to prepare a mixture of vegetables only after using individual components for complementary foods for a week.

Step 2

Rinse selected vegetables thoroughly under running water. If the water is not of sufficient quality, rinse the vegetables in boiled or filtered water. It is recommended to cook vegetables for complementary feeding by steaming or in the oven, since during cooking they lose up to 70% of vitamins and other useful substances. Microwaving preserves nutrients but dries vegetables. If only boiling vegetables is available, immerse them in already boiling water.

Step 3

In winter, sometimes there is no other option but to prepare vegetable complementary foods from frozen foods. In this case, vegetables must be cooked without prior defrosting. When buying frozen vegetables at the store, try to choose packages that do not contain large chunks of ice.

Step 4

At first, ready-made vegetables are chopped to a puree state with a blender, without adding any other components. However, after about a month, you can add some vegetable oil to the puree. As a rule, olive oil or sunflower oil is used. You cannot use a pusher for making mashed potatoes, since the fibers will remain in such a complementary food. If you can't buy a blender, rub vegetables through a fine sieve.

Step 5

Vegetable complementary foods are not salted. You can add some breast milk to improve the taste of the puree. Vegetable puree should be prepared in a small amount for one-time feeding. Children under 1 year of age are not recommended to introduce greens into the puree, as well as vegetables that are aggressive for the stomach: cabbage, cucumbers, tomatoes, beets.
