Almost everyone starts their morning with a fragrant cup of coffee. Many people have long ceased to be satisfied with instant coffee. Natural, ground, brewed coffee is a real ritual for gourmets. But a delicious and invigorating drink cannot be prepared without high-quality, properly roasted grains. How does the mysterious roasting process take place?

It is necessary

    • coffee beans
    • Cast-iron pan,
    • butter or vegetable oil.

Instructions

Step 1

Buy green coffee beans. Such coffee, unlike roasted beans, can be stored much longer and still remain fresh. Roasting gives the coffee a familiar aroma and taste. This happens because some of the vegetable oils in the coffee beans evaporate, and some are enriched with new flavors.

Step 2

The easiest way to roast coffee at home requires only a cast iron or iron pan. Heat the frying pan to an average of 220-350 C, pour in a little oil (at the rate of 1 tablespoon per 500 g of coffee).

Step 3

Pour the coffee beans in one layer and close the lid. Roast the coffee, stirring constantly with a spatula. You can also stir with the lid closed, holding it with a towel and shaking the pan slightly up and to the sides. This procedure can take 15-20 minutes. If searing takes longer, the temperature may need to be increased. The longer you roast the coffee, the deeper and darker the color of the beans.

Step 4

The taste of the drink will depend entirely on how long you roast coffee beans in a pan. You can experiment using one type of coffee from one package, roast them for different amounts of time. As a result, you get coffee with different flavors. A deep roast removes the classic coffee sourness, but adds a pronounced burning aftertaste. Roasting is light, medium and high.

Step 5

Cool the coffee beans by sprinkling them from the skillet on a wide spacing. They will continue to grill for a while, thanks to the internal heat. Rapid cooling will prevent them from burning. Coffee beans reach their peak in flavor within 24 hours of roasting. Then they can be ground and used to brew coffee.

Step 6

You can roast coffee in the oven on a leaf. However, in this case, it may not cook evenly. You will have to keep the oven door open to constantly stir the beans. If you are going to seriously tackle the whole process of making coffee at home, get a roaster, a special coffee roasting machine.
