It is necessary

    • Sunflower seeds
    • separator or seed mill
    • water.

Instructions

Step 1

Sort the sunflower seeds by removing all unnecessary impurities (litter). This process can be safely called painstaking, but today at the oil mills there is equipment that sifts sunflower seeds, separating grass and debris quickly and efficiently.

Step 2

Remove the husk, or hull, from the seeds. This can also be done using existing production equipment or manually.

Step 3

Using a separator or seed mill, it is necessary to clean the resulting mass. A strong air flow will separate the husks and accidentally trapped debris from the seeds.

Step 4

Throw the seeds, that is, "destroy" their structure. The result should be a crushed homogeneous mass, called mint in oil mills. Mint is often obtained by pressing on special equipment.

Step 5

Douse the mint with moisture and heat. The mass will heat up and the so-called pulp (soft crushed substance) will come out. Heat the mint is poured over on a special brazier, where the temperature does not exceed 120 degrees Celsius. If this temperature regime is not observed, the oil will darken, there will be more concentration of oxygen in it, and all the useful properties will simply "burn out".

Step 6

Thoroughly squeeze out any oil that has already appeared from the pulp. When the pulp is squeezed out, two components appear - sunflower oil and cake. The cake is often referred to as miscella. To separate the oil more efficiently, the cake is pressed again. From it, as a rule, you can still get up to 14% oil. With the help of a solvent, the cake is processed for the last time. At the final stage, the oil content in the cake should not exceed 2%. In conclusion, it should be emphasized that in large oil mills, the resulting oil is still filtered and subjected to additional purification from possible impurities. Only then can the sunflower oil be bottled.
