Sweet airy croutons stuffed with apples are perfect as a hearty breakfast for every day, as well as a delicious dessert for tea or a cup of aromatic coffee.
Ingredients:
- 4 slices of loaf 2 cm thick (per serving);
- 1 egg;
- 0, 5 tbsp. milk;
- 1 tsp vanilla extract;
- 1 tbsp icing sugar to taste;
- diced apples (1-2 pcs);
- 1 tbsp. l. butter;
- ground cinnamon to taste;
- brown sugar (quarter cup).
Preparation:
- First you need to prepare the filling. We take a large frying pan, heat butter on it over medium or high heat. Arrange the apples in a skillet, sprinkle with cinnamon and granulated sugar. Fry for four minutes until the apples are golden brown. Do not forget to stir constantly.
- Put the finished filling on a saucer or plate and set aside.
- We cook the croutons themselves. Trim each slice of loaf lightly until a pocket is formed. We put the apple filling in it, three tablespoons in each piece of bread. It is advisable not to fill the croutons all the way, the rest of the filling can be used later.
- Put vanilla, egg and milk in a separate bowl. Beat the resulting mass, just don't overdo it.
- Anoint a frying pan with vegetable oil and heat over low or medium heat.
- We take each slice of bread and dip it in milk in turn, then put it in a hot frying pan. Fry each side for about three minutes, until golden brown. Spread the vegetable oil evenly over the bottom of the pan, otherwise the middle part of the loaf slices will not have time to fry, and the crouton will turn out raw from the milk-egg mixture.
Ready-made croutons are served on a platter, sprinkled with powdered sugar. If the apple filling remains, then it can also be served as jam.
