Strombolli is a closed cake named after a volcanic island near Sicily. In appearance, the pie resembles a closed calzone pizza, only it differs in the way it is decorated.
It is necessary
- For the test:
- - 300 g flour;
- - 180 ml of milk;
- - 25 g of live yeast;
- - 2 tbsp. tablespoons of olive oil;
- - 1 teaspoon of sugar, salt.
- For filling:
- - 100 g salami;
- - 100 g of ham;
- - 70 g of hard cheese;
- - 70 g mozzarella;
- - 1 tbsp. a spoonful of olive oil;
- - 1 teaspoon of oregano;
- - fresh basil.
Instructions
Step 1
Dissolve yeast in warm milk, add sugar there. Measure out 300 g of flour, take a couple of spoons from this amount for dough. Knead the dough - in consistency it will resemble pancake dough. Place in a warm place for half an hour.
Step 2
Then add all the remaining flour, olive oil, salt. Knead into a soft pie dough. Cover it with a towel, let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
Step 3
Prepare the filling. Cut salami, ham and cheeses into thin slices. To make the mozzarella easier to cut, hold it in the freezer for about an hour.
Step 4
Divide the suitable dough into two parts - from the specified amount, two small cakes are obtained. Roll each into a 0.5 centimeter thick rectangle. Place the ham in the center, alternating with the salami. Cover with fresh basil leaves. Then lay out the mozzarella slices, alternating with hard cheese. Cover with basil again. Make side cuts along the edges of the dough. Weave the dough strips so that you get a pigtail.
Step 5
Place both cakes on a baking sheet, brush with olive oil on top, sprinkle with oregano. Place in the oven for 15 minutes. Bake the strombollis at 200 degrees until browned.
Step 6
Cool the finished pies a little, cut into pieces. Serve hot or cold.
