Instructions

Step 1

Be sure to peel the tomato when preparing hot dishes from it (this is optional for salads and garnishing). The fact is that the peel of tomatoes is poorly digested by the human body, so it should certainly be removed from dishes for children and the elderly. In addition, during thermal processing, the peel of tomatoes is ugly folded and separated from the fruit, so it looks ugly in the dish. Peeling tomatoes is easy.

Step 2

Take ripe tomatoes, wash them thoroughly and remove the petioles. Then use a sharp knife to make small crosswise cuts at the base of each tomato. You may not need to make these cuts, but they make it easier to peel the fruit. You need to make incisions only on one side of each fruit.

Step 3

Heat water in a kettle or saucepan to a boil. You need very hot water to separate the skin. Quickly dip cooked tomatoes in water or cover them with water from a kettle. Some recipes recommend chopping the tomato on a fork and holding it over the fire, but for the sake of safety, you shouldn't. And the tomato itself can only become charred, losing its color and taste.

Step 4

Leave the tomatoes in hot water for 10-15 seconds, then carefully remove them from the boiling water. You will see the skin on the incisions lift up. If the tomatoes are not very ripe, increase their soak time to a minute. But don't keep them there for too long, or the tomatoes will start to cook and become too soft.

Step 5

Immediately after this, you can begin to peel the tomatoes from the skin, but it is still better to first dip the tomatoes in cold water. The temperature difference will help to remove the skin faster and better. Now you can take out the tomatoes and gently pull the skin with the back of the knife, removing it. Usually, this procedure is enough to remove the skin from the tomatoes without any problems. But if it is difficult to remove, you need to put the tomatoes in hot water again for a while.

Step 6

Tomatoes after such cooking, as a rule, become soft, they are well grated or finely chopped, and then used in the preparation of various sauces, minced meat and soups. Most likely, you will not be able to cut such tomatoes with high quality for a beautiful decoration of salads or other dishes, as they quickly lose their shape. Therefore, fresh tomatoes with skin should be used to decorate dishes.
