Pita is a traditional Arabian flatbread known since ancient times. It is made from unleavened yeast dough and can be stored for a long time. Pita has gained great popularity and love all over the world, it is often used for making hot sandwiches, since the cake has a convenient "pocket" for the filling.

It is necessary

    • 400-500 g of wheat flour;
    • 7 g dry yeast;
    • 1 tbsp salt;
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil;
    • 250 ml of water.

Instructions

Step 1

Warm up 250 ml of water, mix it with one tablespoon of olive oil. Sift flour through a sieve, add yeast, salt. Pour half of the flour into the water, knead in one direction all the time until you get a thick mass (you can use half the flour unscreened). Then add the other half of the flour, knead, roll the dough into a ball, cover with a towel and leave in a warm place for half an hour.

Step 2

Knead the dough for ten minutes, brush the bowl with butter, put a ball of dough in there, cover with a towel and leave again in a warm place for an hour (until it doubles in size). Sprinkle flour on your hands, divide the dough into ten equal parts, roll them into balls, then roll out the cakes one or half a centimeter thick, about ten to fifteen centimeters in diameter. Cover the finished tortillas with a towel while the others roll out.

Step 3

Preheat the oven to 240 ° C, put a baking sheet with water on the bottom to generate hot steam, which is necessary for baking, so that the pita rises quickly and forms a "pocket" inside. Grease a baking sheet with vegetable oil or cover with foil, place in the oven and heat until very hot.

Step 4

Place the pita bread on a hot baking sheet, place on the hottest upper level in the oven and bake for three to five minutes (the cakes should swell, but you must not overdo them, otherwise they will turn out to be dry and brittle).

Step 5

Use only warm pita: stack ready-made cakes straight from the oven and wrap them in a sheet of foil. If you are baking pita for future use, put the cakes, cooled in foil, without unrolling, put in the freezer. Before use, remove from the freezer, unfold, defrost, then wrap in foil and place in a non-hot oven (about 150 ° C) for fifteen minutes.
