Orange is a juicy, aromatic fruit rich in valuable vitamins, which is very popular all over the world. To enjoy this fruit as much as possible, you need to provide it with the correct storage conditions.
It is necessary
- oranges;
- sugar;
- lemon acid.
Instructions
Step 1
Store oranges in the refrigerator at home, but watch the storage temperature, as citrus fruits quickly deteriorate from too low and lose the vitamins they contain.
Step 2
You can put oranges in a well-ventilated dark room with a temperature of + 5-10 ° C. In this state, they will lie for up to two weeks. It is best to place them in warm water (+ 50 ° C) before storing, to which borax powder (60 g per 1 liter of water) has been added. Leave the oranges in this solution for a few minutes, dry and remove.
Step 3
If you need to store oranges for a long time (up to 6 months), then wrap each fruit in a paper towel and place it in a basement or other dark and cool room. Keep an eye on the humidity, it should be 80–90%. Choose fruits of the appropriate ripeness. If the orange has a slightly green tint, then it is considered suitable for long-term storage.
Step 4
Do not store oranges in close proximity to other foods.
Step 5
Jam can be made from oranges and preserved, thus, in this form. To do this, wash the fruit with warm water and soap and dry well. Grate the zest on a fine grater. Place in a saucepan and cook for 2 minutes. Divide the oranges into slices, each cut into 2-3 slices. Prepare syrup (1 kg of sugar and 400 ml of water for 1 kg of fruit). Put the oranges in hot syrup and let sit for 2-3 hours. Then put it on fire. 5 minutes before the end of cooking, add 5 g of citric acid and zest to the syrup. Put the resulting jam hot in jars and cork.
Step 6
You can make orange peel syrup. To do this, rinse the fruit well and dry it. Rub the zest into a large china bowl and close. Then add 2 liters of boiling water and 2 kg of oranges and leave to infuse for a day. Strain through cheesecloth. Put 2 kg of sugar and 10 g of citric acid in the drink. Stir the syrup well to completely dissolve the sugar. Bottle the syrup and cap. Store in a cool, dark place.
