There is an opinion that oatmeal in Russia is completely undeservedly forgotten and that it is time to return this unique product to store shelves. This opinion is justified, since oatmeal is an excellent alternative to the famous "hercules" and other useful instant products. Moreover, oatmeal is significantly superior to other products in terms of the content of nutrients and it is especially useful for a fragile child's body.

40-50 years ago, oatmeal in Russia was an ordinary product and was used as an indispensable ingredient for making cereals, soups, all kinds of baked goods, and baby food. In addition, oatmeal was used in medicine and even in cosmetology.

What is oatmeal and how to cook it

Tolokno is a product that is made from oats. The production process itself, consisting of several stages, has not changed for many hundreds of years.

To begin with, dry oats were soaked in water for a day - in some capacious vessel, or simply dipped in a bag to the bottom of the reservoir.

After the grains swelled, they were poured into a sieve to drain off excess water. Then the layer of oats was carefully distributed on a baking sheet and placed in an oven, where the product was dried for several hours. Typically, the oats were placed in a cooling oven overnight.

After drying the grains, they were pounded for a long time and stubbornly in a mortar to a powdery state. Thus, flour was obtained, which has a kind of creamy shade. This flour was the basis for cooking.

Useful properties of oatmeal

As mentioned above, oatmeal is a source of biologically valuable substances. Thanks to research, it was revealed that this product contains bioflavonoids, which are necessary for the prevention of cancer, elimination of toxins and "bad" cholesterol from the body.

Contains in oatmeal and the substance alanine, which strengthens the immune system, regulates blood sugar levels, and stimulates the brain. The substance cysteine, of which the product also contains a sufficient amount, helps in the fight against extra pounds, since it is an excellent fat burning agent. In addition, cysteine protects the human body from the harmful effects of radiation.

Thanks to the amino acids, vitamins and antioxidants it contains, the fiber is recommended for use in food for people suffering from diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, heart and kidney diseases, all kinds of inflammatory diseases, tuberculosis, and skin diseases.
