Pea soup with the addition of pork ham, cooked in a strong broth, is considered a traditional dish of Russian national cuisine. The combination of peas and pork is also common in German, French and other European cuisines.
Pea soup in Russia began to be prepared only in the 17th century. And from that moment on, this nutritious soup with a special taste was loved by both ordinary peasants and the nobility. You can cook pea soup in a multicooker from whole peas or split peas.
Pea soup in a slow cooker
To make this simple soup, you will need (for 6 servings):
- 300 g of peas;
- 500 g of smoked meats (for example, bacon, smoked ribs, etc.);
- onions - 2 pcs.;
- potatoes - 3-4 pcs.;
- carrots - 1 pc.;
- 2 tbsp. l. vegetable oil;
- salt, black pepper, bay leaf - to taste and as desired.
Rinse the peas well under running water, and then leave in a saucepan and cover with cold water.
Meanwhile, peel the onions and chop finely. Pour vegetable oil into the bowl of your multicooker and add the chopped onion. In the "Baking" mode, fry the onions in a multicooker.
Rinse the carrots, peel and grate on a coarse grater. Put the carrots in a slow cooker and fry the vegetables for 10 minutes. Please note that you do not need to close the lid of the multicooker.
Wash the potatoes, peel and cut into cubes. Also chop the smoked meats according to your taste.
Transfer the smoked meats, potatoes and soaked peas to a slow cooker, fill the food with cold water and cook in the "Soup / Stew" mode for 1, 5 hours.
After the beep sounds, warning you that cooking is complete, open the lid of the multicooker and add salt, pepper and any spices you want. Pea soup in a slow cooker with smoked meats is ready and can be served.
As a rule, peas should be boiled to a puree state, however, if you like having whole peas in the soup, then shorten the cooking time. The soup will not boil over if you add salt at the very end, and you will not add water in the process.
Remember that spices and spices can add amazing flavor and aroma to pea soup and make it easier to digest. Thyme, chili pepper, basil, dill, cinnamon, curry, tarragon and others can be used as spices for peas.
