- 400 ml chicken broth;
- 2 medium apples.

Step 1
Prepare the sauerkraut first. Peel, wash the onions and chop them into thin slices. Preheat a skillet and melt the butter in it.

Place the onions in a skillet and sauté them over medium heat until golden brown. Put the sauerkraut in a colander, squeeze the brine, rinse it well under running cold water. Let the water drain.

Peel the apples and grate them. Put them in a skillet with onions, put sauerkraut there and pour in chicken broth.

Stir the contents of the pan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover skillet and simmer over low heat for forty minutes. Add broth as needed during stewing.

Boil water in a saucepan. Wash and peel the potatoes. Carefully cut out all the "eyes" and rinse the tubers again. Place the potatoes in a saucepan and cover with boiling salted water.

Cook the potatoes over medium heat until tender. Then drain the water and mash the tubers. Heat milk, pour into potatoes, add butter and mix everything well.

Place the finished German mashed potatoes on a platter and top with the sauerkraut garnish. If you wish, you can boil and serve any sausages or sausages to it.
