Exotic coconut has a pleasant, delicate taste that evokes dreams of the seaside, paradises and endless relaxation in us. To keep the coconut fresh and flavorful, store this nut properly.
Instructions
Step 1
Before bringing the coconut home, choose the nut you want from the store. If the storage rules are not followed, then you risk buying a spoiled product, and then proper storage at home will no longer help him. Take a close look at the surface of the coconut. The slightest damage, rot or discoloration of the coconut shell indicates that the nut is spoiled. Set this coconut aside.
Step 2
Three holes on the surface of the nut must be intact, free of rot and practically indistinguishable in color from the entire shell.
Step 3
Shake the coconut over your ear. A ripe coconut should retain about 20% of the coconut milk (milk turns into pulp as it ripens). If you hear milk splashing, buy this nut.
Step 4
You should buy the coconut that has been stored in the store for no more than a week. Moreover, the ideal condition for coconut is a cool dry place, for example, a refrigerator. Use the coconut as soon as possible after purchase.
Step 5
If the coconut turns out to be "stale", do not rush to throw it away. As a rule, the coconut starts to deteriorate "from the bottom", that is, from the place where it was lying and on which, accordingly, the coconut milk was collected. If, after opening the coconut, you see that one half of it is soft, and the juice is sour, do not be discouraged. You can use the pulp on the other side of the nut for food, where it has not yet had time to deteriorate.
Step 6
Store the opened coconut in the refrigerator separately from milk, but no more than a couple of days. At the same time, make sure that the pulp does not start to spoil. If it gets dry, it can still be consumed. However, if the taste becomes completely unpleasant, discard the coconut.
Step 7
If you have cracked the coconut, but decide to keep it for a long time, use freeze. Drain the milk into a separate container and freeze at low temperature. Separate the flesh from the shell (it is easier to do this a few hours after opening). Try grating the pulp on a fine grater or chopping it in a blender. Be careful, the flesh of the coconut is quite hard. Put the crushed white mass in a vacuum package and place in the freezer. Store frozen coconut for no more than 1.5 months. Use immediately after defrosting.
Step 8
Store the coconut separately from the fruit that produces ethylene (ripeness hormone). These include apples, plums, pears, apricots, melons, beets.
