Turkey meat is a very tasty and healthy product that can be cooked in different ways and with different seasonings. Its preparation is very simple and not laborious - the fragrant turkey drumstick is especially popular, which housewives bake in mustard-honey sauce.

Meat preparation

To prepare this recipe, you will need 1 kg of turkey drumstick, 2/3 tsp. salt, ½ tsp. ground black pepper, 1-2 cloves of garlic, vegetable oil, 5 cloves, 3-4 tsp. honey, 3 tsp. mustard and foil. The turkey drumstick is thawed, cleaned of the remaining feathers, washed and dried with paper towels. Then it is rubbed on all sides with a mixture of salt and ground black pepper, and the garlic is peeled and cut into small cubes. The turkey shank is pierced deeper with a sharp knife and rotated, widening the puncture - as a result, holes are obtained into which clove buds and garlic sticks are inserted.

It is not necessary to use cloves in this recipe, and if you wish, you can replace it with other aromatic herbs that are combined with meat.

To prepare mustard-honey sauce, honey is mixed with mustard, the drumstick is thickly coated with the mixture from all sides, put in a large saucepan and covered with a lid. So the turkey will be marinated for 30-60 minutes, after which it is laid out in a baking dish, greased with lard or vegetable oil and poured on top of it. The edges of the mold are tightened with foil and placed in an oven preheated to 200 degrees for 20 minutes, after which the heat is reduced to 160 degrees and the meat is cooked for another half hour.

Baking and serving tips

After the allotted time indicated in the recipe, the foil must be opened and the shin must be checked for readiness by making a deep puncture with a knife in the most fleshy place - if the juice flowing from there is not completely transparent and pinkish, you need to close the foil and continue baking, periodically pouring the fat on the meat and juice. When the juice becomes completely transparent, remove the foil so that the drumstick is covered with a crispy crust.

Watering the turkey like this will give the turkey a soft, tender feel - otherwise it can be quite dry.

In order for the meat to brown evenly, you need to cover the already browned parts with pieces of foil. When one side of the drumstick is baked as much as possible, it is turned over and baked in the same way on the other side, not forgetting to water the turkey with fat and juice. Ready meat, baked in honey mustard sauce, is removed from the oven, placed on a dish or plate and served with rice, pasta, buckwheat porridge or baked potatoes. If desired and possible, the turkey can be supplemented with a salad of fresh vegetables.
