French Onion Soup is a classic with amazing taste and aroma. One of the legends says that King Louis XV made the first onion soup when he found nothing but onions, baguette and champagne in his hunting lodge. By mixing the ingredients, the august monarch received an unsurpassed dish that is immensely popular to this day.
Food preparation
In order to make French onion soup, you will need: 500 g of white onions, 1.5 liters of beef broth, 100 ml of red wine, 1.5 tbsp. l. flour, 100 g of hard cheese, 40 g of butter, 2 tbsp. l. vegetable oil, 1 tsp. granulated sugar, 1 tsp. salt, 1 bay leaf, 1 dried baguette, black pepper to taste.
Recipe
Peel the onions and cut into half rings. Combine butter with vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or cauldron, and then put chopped onion into it, simmer for 15-20 minutes, after covering the pan with a lid. During this time, the onion should become transparent and golden.
Next, add granulated sugar and salt to the onion in the required amount, continue to fry until a dark golden hue. Reduce heat and add wheat flour to skillet. Stirring constantly, simmer the onion for 2-3 minutes.
Pour the broth and red wine into the pan, add the bay leaf. Bring the consistency to a boil, then cook for 20 minutes, salt and pepper if necessary.
Cut the baguette into slices, brush each piece with vegetable oil and dry in the oven. Put the cooked buns in the soup, sprinkle generously with grated cheese on the top. Place the bowl of soup in the oven and bake until golden brown. To cook the cheese faster, turn on the top heat or grill.
Remove the onion soup from the oven and serve hot. French onion soup is ready!
