Many well-known nowadays dishes arose by chance - as a result of a momentary impromptu. But this did not stop them from gaining popularity. This happened with the Pozhansky cutlets, with Caesar salad and potato chips.
Most of everyone's favorite recipes are the result of long experimentation and hard work of the chefs. But the history of cooking also knows cases when a new dish appeared by accident, due to an error, or simply by coincidence.
Pozharsky cutlets
According to legend, Alexander I drove into a tavern of a certain Pozharsky in the city of Ostashkov and demanded veal cutlets. However, there was no veal, and the owner was already in despair, but his wife advised him to cook breaded poultry cutlets. The king was delighted (even after the disclosure of the deception), the cutlets were patented, and the tavern became famous.
Caesar salad
This world famous salad was also invented due to the lack of food. The owner of a Mexican restaurant, Caesar Cardini, hastily constructed a dish for high-ranking guests from what was on hand, and they liked it. By the way, there was no chicken in the original version. And salad, as you already understood, has nothing to do with the Roman emperor.
Potato chips
The crispy appetizer came out by accident. At the end of the 19th century, in one of the American restaurants, a visitor was dissatisfied with French fries, because, in his opinion, the slices were cut too thick and demanded to redo the dish. An annoyed chef, in spite of a finicky customer, cut paper-thin slices - and suddenly it turned out very tasty.
