Lavash is bread that looks like a thin flat cake. It is especially popular among the peoples of the Caucasus. All kinds of dishes are prepared from it or used instead of ordinary bread.

It is necessary

    • 250 g water
    • 600 gr. flour
    • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
    • 2 tsp dry yeast
    • 2 teaspoons of salt
    • 2 teaspoons of sunflower oil.

Instructions

Step 1

Dissolve sugar and yeast in water and put in a warm place for 15 minutes.

Mix the salt and flour in a large bowl and make a depression in the center of the flour.

Pour water into flour and add vegetable oil. Mix everything well.

Step 2

Place the dough on a clean table surface and knead well for ten minutes. Periodically add flour to the dough and continue kneading until it becomes elastic.

Roll the dough into a ball and let stand for about two hours. Cover it with a towel or put cellophane on top.

Step 3

Preheat the oven to 230 degrees. While the oven is preheating, you need to prepare the baking sheets.

Step 4

Divide the finished dough into several parts and roll out in layers 1-2 mm thick.

Pierce a hole in the dough with a fork and sprinkle it with water.

Step 5

Place the prepared dough in the oven and bake for 3-5 minutes. In the Caucasus, lavash is baked in special ovens over an open fire. Serve ready-made pita bread with hot dishes or cold appetizers.
