Stir the sugar continuously without stopping.

Melt the sugar to a syrupy consistency. As soon as the syrup gurgles, remove from heat.

Grease saucers with vegetable oil.

Place a toothpick at a time from the center of the saucer to the edge.

Pour a little hot syrup over the saucer.

You can use a cast iron skillet instead of a saucer. To do this, also grease it with oil, pour sugar syrup in the form of small pancakes, and put toothpicks at the end.

Place the saucers or skillet in the refrigerator until the sugar has solidified.
