Storing potato stocks is not difficult if you equip yourself with a minimum of knowledge and tools. Then you can not worry all winter about the fact that at some point there will be no potatoes at home.
It is necessary
- - dry cool room (cellar, basement);
- - boxes, bags.
Instructions
Step 1
Storage conditions for potatoes
In order to preserve potato stocks, certain conditions must be created. First of all, choose the right storage space. It can be a basement, a cellar - any dark, relatively dry (air humidity 85-90%) and sufficiently cool ventilated room.
The storage temperature of potatoes is important. The optimum temperature is 3-5 degrees Celsius. A lower temperature is fraught with the fact that the tubers will freeze and acquire an unpleasant sweet taste. At higher temperatures, potatoes begin to sprout. When stored in the light, the fruits turn green and accumulate solanine, which is poisonous to humans.
Step 2
Storage preparation
Before storing, dry the potatoes thoroughly by keeping them in the air for several hours. Then put the potatoes in boxes that have ventilation holes. The boxes are installed on supports (15-20 cm from the ground) and moved away from the walls of the room where the potatoes are stored.
After laying, to avoid tuber diseases, cover the boxes with straw, coolies, and the like. In the absence of boxes, store potatoes by sprinkling on straw and covering a bunch of burlap, matting.
Step 3
Storage
During storage, you should regularly sort out the tubers, removing spoiled ones. Store defective fruit separately from undamaged fruit and try to use it first.
