Mint liqueur is a versatile drink. It can be used as an ingredient in alcoholic beverages, or consumed neat. You can make mint liqueur at home, while following a specific recipe.
An easy way to make mint liqueur
For instant mint liqueur, you will need 1 liter of vodka, 400 g of sugar, 300 g of water and 50 g of mint. Optionally, you can replace vodka with cognac.
Place the mint leaves on the bottom of a regular vegetable canning jar. Pour the blank with vodka. Close the container tightly with a lid and leave to infuse for two weeks. For storage, it is better to choose a dark and cool enough place. The readiness of the drink can be determined by the appearance of a green or slightly greenish tint.
After 10-14 days, carefully strain the preparation for the mint syrup so that there are not even the smallest particles of mint in the liquid. Combine sugar and water in a small saucepan, bring mixture to a boil and wait until smooth. Cool the resulting sugar syrup and mix with the mint drink. Pour the prepared mixture into a bottle, close with a lid or stopper and leave to infuse for several days in a dark place. It is better to shake the drink slightly before use.
Important points
You can control the strength of the mint liqueur yourself. To do this, pay attention to the main ingredient, which is the basis for its preparation. If you use vodka and a minimum amount of sugar, then the drink will turn out to be more intense and harsh. Cognac with more sugar syrup will turn the liquor into a milder drink.
Note that another ingredient, mint, plays an important role in the production of mint liqueur. The taste of the drink will be richer if you use fresh mint leaves. Powdered mixtures or dry leaves will significantly alter the taste of the final product.
The color of the liquor directly depends on the type of drink chosen for the base. If you use vodka and fresh mint, you get a rich green liqueur. Cognac and dry mint are used to make drinks with a slightly greenish tint.
