You can make mastic at home for every taste: milk, gelatin, marshmallows, chocolate and other varieties. The first three options are the easiest to prepare and are suitable for decorating almost any cake. Milk paste can be prepared the fastest, but it is important to mix the ingredients in the correct proportion to make it flexible enough. Gelatinous mastic takes longer to prepare, but the process itself does not cause any particular difficulties. And even children can make a coating such as marshmallow mastic.

Marshmallow mastic

Ingredients:

- 100 grams of marshmallows;

- 1 tablespoon of water;

- 1, 5 cups of powdered sugar;

- 1, 5-3 cups of cornstarch;

- 20-30 grams of butter;

- food coloring of a suitable color.

Stir 100 grams of marshmallows with a tablespoon of water, then melt in the microwave or water bath until the mixture is soft enough. This usually takes no more than 20 seconds at an average oven power. The consistency of the resulting mixture should resemble processed cheese.

Combine the cornstarch and icing sugar by sifting through a fine sieve. Make sure that there are no lumps in the resulting mass. Carefully and slowly start sprinkling the icing sugar and starch into the melted candy mixture. Stir with a spoon, then knead well with your hands. Do not skimp on starch, otherwise homemade mastic will turn out too cloying. In addition, the starch will add plasticity to the mixture. After mixing the mass well, add butter to it.

Roll out the piece and cover the cake or other pastry with it. The mixture will be completely ready as soon as it stops sticking to your hands while stirring.

Please note that it is better to buy one-color marshmallows. You can tint the resulting monochromatic mastic in the desired colors with food dyes. Wrap the rest of the mastic in foil and store in the refrigerator.

Milk mastic

Ingredients:

- 160 grams of powdered milk or cream;

- 160 grams of powdered sugar;

- 2-4 tablespoons of condensed milk;

- 2 tablespoons of lemon juice;

- a teaspoon of brandy.

Take equal amounts of cream or milk powder and powdered sugar and mix well. Add the condensed milk and continue stirring until the mixture is elastic enough. For flavor, add lemon juice and some cognac. You can chill the homemade milk mastic a little before applying to the cake.

Gelatinous mastic

Ingredients:

- 2 tablespoons of gelatin;

- 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar;

- a bowl of warm water.

Soak gelatin in warm water for 2 hours, then melt over low heat and bring to a state of complete homogeneity. After cooling the mixture, add the icing sugar to it and mix well until the workpiece is elastic enough like plasticine.

Chocolate mastic

Ingredients:

- 100 g of dark or white chocolate;

- 2 tablespoons of honey.

Melt dark or white (but not milk) chocolate in a water bath. Remove from heat, add honey and stir well. Refrigerate mass before use.

Marshmallow mastic

Ingredients:

- marshmallow in the right amount;

- a teaspoon of water;

- a tablespoon of powdered sugar.

Prepare the right amount of marshmallow in accordance with the size of the confection for which you are going to make mastic at home. Melt the marshmallows over low heat, adding a teaspoon of water beforehand. Cool the resulting mass and mix it until smooth, avoiding the formation of lumps. While continuing to stir, slowly sprinkle the mixture with powdered sugar. Place the workpiece in the refrigerator and refrigerate for half an hour. Roll out the resulting mastic and start decorating the birthday cake.
