For Russians, pineapple has been and remains a delicacy that you can pamper yourself with or treat guests at the festive table. Of course, only fresh ripe fruit tastes good, so when thinking about which pineapple to choose in the store, remember a few useful tips.

It is necessary

  • - a pineapple;
  • - knife.

Instructions

Step 1

Smell the pineapple. The scent of the fruit “in the juice itself” resembles a subtle strawberry aroma. A luscious sweetish smell is acquired by pineapple, which has begun to deteriorate.

Step 2

Pay attention to the top of the pineapple. Thick and green, it indicates the freshness of the fruit. Pull on the inner leaves. If the pineapple is ripe, they are easily separated, and, on the contrary, if the leaves are firmly adhered to the base, this indicates that the fruit is unripe.

Step 3

Press down on the pineapple with your fingers, testing it for firmness. At the same time, a soft crust is by no means a sign of ripeness, as it might seem, but a clear indication that the fruit is stale. Ideally, pineapple should be very firm. You can also purchase a tough fruit if all other signs of ripeness are present.

Step 4

Pat the pineapple with your palm. A dull sound speaks of ripeness, a ringing one - that the fruit is not juicy enough and, most likely, is already dry.

Step 5

The ideal pineapple rind color is yellow-brown. However, a slightly greenish color is also allowed. In the latter case, be aware that the fruit was picked unripe and ripened during transport. It is not worth buying pineapple with an intense green color, it will probably not be sweet enough.

Step 6

After the pineapple is purchased and brought home, you can make sure it is ripe by cutting the fruit. A properly selected pineapple has an intense yellow, juicy flesh inside. Pale, dryish pulp is an indicator of a poor-quality product.
