Despite the fact that the dorada has many original names, for example, dolphin fish, it is just a crucian carp belonging to the catfish family. It lives on the east coast of the Atlantic Ocean and in the Mediterranean Sea. It is very rare to find it in the Black Sea.

An interesting fact is that this fish is able to change its sex during its life. Dorada are born as male individuals, and at 4 years old they acquire the ability to produce both sperm and eggs.

Breeding this fish requires a truly royal environment: a special diet for feeding, clean water enriched with oxygen, and special lighting that mimics the seasons. It is not surprising that the cost of the dorado is, in the end, quite decent, although affordable. Farms for breeding this fish can be found in Greece, Turkey, France and Italy.

Dorada is prized for tasty and tender meat, enriched with a large amount of easily digestible protein, potassium and iodine. By the amount of the last element, it is in many ways superior to other representatives of the aquatic kingdom, for which it is recommended for food for those who suffer from a lack of iodine in the body. Also, sea carp enriches the body with many B vitamins, vitamins A and PP. It also contains sodium, selenium, calcium, phosphorus and other trace elements.

The calorie content of gilthead is not too high - 100 g of this fish contains about 80-100 kcal. At the same time, it contains very little fats and carbohydrates, which makes its meat not only useful, but also a dietary product. True, to preserve a beautiful figure, it is better to cook it in the oven, steamed or grilled without oil.

How is Dorada

Dorada meat is so tasty that it is difficult to spoil it. Such fish can be baked with all kinds of spices and vegetables, fried in a pan or over an open fire, added to soup and even marinated. In some countries, it is also served raw, seasoned with local spices and sauces, but for this you need to be sure of the freshness and quality of the fish.

Dorada in foil over an open fire is very tasty. To do this, it must be cleaned and carefully gutted, trying not to touch the gallbladder, which in this fish is located quite close to the abdomen. Then wash, salt and season with black pepper and rosemary. The gilthead prepared in this way must be poured with lemon juice at the end.
