Calvados is a strong alcoholic drink originally from Normandy with about 40% strength, for the preparation of which various varieties of apples are used, and in some cases, a small amount of pears. Calvados is called apple vodka or brandy and is made by fermenting apple wort.

Step 1
Wash apples, cut into quarters, remove seeds and cores, cut into small cubes. Sterilize a three-liter jar, put apple slices in it in layers, alternating with thin layers of vanilla sugar. Fill with vodka, cover the jar with gauze and place in a dark, warm place for two weeks. Remember to shake the jar several times a day.

Strain the apple infusion through two layers of cheesecloth, transfer to a large saucepan and simmer over low heat. Separately in a small saucepan, boil the water / sugar syrup, which should dissolve completely in the water. Then, gently pour the syrup into the warm apple brew, continue cooking.

Set aside the pan and leave to cool completely. Pour the finished drink into dry bottles and close tightly. Store Calvados in a dark place at temperatures up to 18 degrees.

On the basis of Calvados, alcoholic cocktails are made that will diversify and decorate any celebration: Cocktail "Pleasant Adventure" For 1 serving: 40 ml of Calvados, 20 ml of gin and 20 ml of fresh grapefruit juice, mix in a shaker with pieces of ice. Cocktail "Normandy" 30 ml of Calvados, 20 ml of orange juice, 10 ml of sugar syrup, beat with ice in a shaker.
