Mayonnaise is one of the indispensable products of modern housewives. This cold sauce is good for meat, fish and vegetable dishes. However, the controversy surrounding its health benefits continues.

The main ingredient in any mayonnaise is fat. And this is not just a vegetable oil that contains vitamin F, which promotes skin rejuvenation. Many manufacturers add modified vegetable oils - trans fats - to their mayonnaise. The molecules of this substance are alien to living nature, therefore the human body is not able to assimilate them. They simply begin to accumulate on the walls of blood vessels, in the liver, and in the pancreas. If you see high-quality vegetable fat in mayonnaise, this is modified vegetable oil. Quite often it is present in the so-called "light" or low-calorie mayonnaise. In the production of such a mayonnaise, ordinary vegetable oil is excluded from the composition. It is replaced by water, gelatin, genetically modified starch, thickeners and emulsifiers. The harm of such mayonnaise is obvious. Its regular use contributes to the development of metabolic disease, obesity, atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease.

In turn, in high-calorie mayonnaise, the content of chemical components is minimal, since its uniform consistency and density is achieved through the use of completely harmless milk powder and egg powder in the composition. Naturally, such components lead to an increase in cholesterol content. However, even with this in mind, the harm from low-calorie mayonnaise is many times greater than from ordinary mayonnaise.

Flavor enhancers are another indispensable component of modern store mayonnaise. These are substances that give the product a more pronounced taste. All of them are of artificial origin, therefore, they negatively affect the stomach, as well as the entire digestive system. In addition, flavor enhancers can cause addiction to the product, turning into a real addiction.

However, not everything is so pessimistic. Mayonnaise is not so bad if you cook it yourself. Homemade mayonnaise is not only relatively healthy, but also delicious.
