It is difficult to imagine confectionery without the use of powdered sugar. With its help, they decorate all kinds of pastries, cakes, bakery products, make mastic, from which decorative elements are then molded. Powdered sugar can be purchased at any convenience store, although it is easy to make at home too.

Powdered sugar is simply irreplaceable if you are going to create another confectionery masterpiece. You can make frosting, mastic from it, or you can simply sprinkle on a chocolate cake. In any case, it will turn out delicious. I wonder how powdered sugar is obtained commercially and how it can be made at home.

Production

Granulated sugar (cane or obtained from sugar beet), ground to a state of homogeneous dust - this is powdered sugar. Its production in factories is carried out on specialized equipment, or rather, on an impact mill. There are several varieties of powdered sugar. The finest powder (the size of one particle is less than 100 microns), which is known to everyone, is sold in retail chains, but the other two (coarser grinding) are used for the production of bread and confectionery (whipping cream, making icing). The equipment used is very powerful, in one hour it produces about 0.25 tons of powdered sugar.

Sugar at home

The first thing that comes to mind when you need to make powdered sugar at home is the use of household kitchen appliances. Many housewives use coffee grinders for these purposes, but it should be borne in mind that the coffee bean is softer, which means that you expose the device to increased loads, from which it may become unusable. Better to use a food processor (mini mill). You should grind the sugar at least three times. The main thing in this business is homogeneity, so every time the powder needs to be sifted through a strainer.

How to make powdered sugar without a coffee grinder? Our grandmothers also prepared powder according to their own recipes. There are several ways. The first is using a mortar. If you have a mortar with a heavy pestle in your house, then with a little effort you can get the powder you need. If you don't have a mortar, you can use a simple glass bottle. Put sugar (sugar cubes) on the confectionery paper, cover with another sheet on top, and then begin to roll out with rubbing movements. Of course, this method is more laborious, but the result will still be the desired product.

Of course, if you need not a large amount, then it makes sense to make it at home. Moreover, making powdered sugar is not at all difficult.
