Instructions

Step 1

When choosing a shaker, immediately exclude from the proposed range of models devices, the glass of which is made of plastic. It is better to give preference to metal, namely steel.

Step 2

The lid of a glass of a quality shaker should not be screwed on. It is much better if it is inserted into a glass. Only this design excludes spilling and splashing of liquid while shaking the shaker.

Step 3

When choosing a shaker, it is important to know that this device can be of two types: a traditional (cobbler) and a Boston shaker.

Step 4

A traditional shaker (cobbler) is a glass with a strainer lid that allows you to drain the ice if it is not needed in the drink. In addition, most often the cobbler is equipped with a built-in measuring cup.

Step 5

This type of shaker is very easy to use. It can be shaken with one hand. Making a cocktail in a cobbler is very simple. Two-thirds of the glass is covered with ice, the ingredients necessary for the drink are poured. It is enough to shake the cobbler for 10 seconds, rotating it horizontally. The resulting cocktail is usually quickly poured into glasses.

Step 6

The Boston shaker is considered more prestigious. It contains two glasses. The mixing spoon and ice strainer are usually purchased separately.

Step 7

The advantage of the Boston shaker over the cobbler is that the ice in the first version of the shaker comes into contact with the already chilled cocktail only at the moment of mixing. As a result, much less water is produced than in a traditional shaker. Naturally, the prepared drink turns out to be tastier and of better quality.

Step 8

The technique of making a cocktail in a Boston shaker is pretty simple. Both glasses are filled with ice to two-thirds of their volume. One of the glasses is cooled by stirring the ice with a spoon. Then the ice and water are removed from this glass and the components of the drink are poured into it. Next, the ice and water are removed from the second glass and the cocktail is poured into it. The transparent glass is turned upside down, put on the second glass and the shaker is connected. The device is vigorously shaken with vertical movements, disconnected and the drink is poured into glasses.
