Millet porridge is very popular in Russia. The groats from which it is prepared contains a fairly large amount of protein (about 11%), vitamins of group B and PP, as well as a number of microelements necessary for the body (fluorine, iron, magnesium, silicon, potassium, zinc and others). Many people know about the benefits of this product, but people often ask what millet is made of. After all, a cereal with such a name does not exist.
Many people judge by the name and think that millet is made from wheat. In fact, wheat (from which, by the way, semolina is made) has nothing to do with millet. It is produced from a completely different cereal - from millet. This is an annual plant from which brooms are made, food for poultry. It is not for nothing that in the villages millet is sometimes called "chicken porridge" or "porridge from a broom."
Of course, the processing method in which millet is obtained from millet is different from the method in which the same cereal is used to make poultry feed. In the production of millet, the shell, in which the grain is enclosed, is removed, the cereal is sanded and turns into those even yellow balls that we see in stores and markets. Millet is one of the most ancient agricultural crops. The Chinese began to cultivate it, and much earlier than rice. Then the traditions of millet production "migrated" to India, Central Asia, only then in Russia did they learn what millet is made of. Among the advantages of millet are not only its usefulness and versatility, but also unpretentiousness to various natural factors. The grain is capable of producing a good harvest in almost all types of climate.
