Tangerines
Their homeland is South China and Laos. These small tangerines with many seeds can be easily distinguished by their skin, which is slightly behind the flesh. Mostly they are eaten fresh. But you can also make marmalade and liqueur from them.
Satsuma
In taste and appearance, this fruit resembles tangerine. However, it has no seeds. Satsuma's rind is paler, but lags behind the pulp in the same way as tangerine, and therefore these fruits are easy to peel. Children especially love satsuma.
Kumquat
The homeland of this fruit is China. The size of the kumquat is hardly larger than the olive, so it is often passed off as a dwarf orange. It can be eaten raw with the peel. And if you use kumquat as a filling for meat dishes, then they acquire a very special taste.
Orange
This is perhaps the most famous of the bitter oranges. It cannot be eaten raw, as its pulp has a very sour taste. Therefore, oranges are used to make liqueurs, lemonades and elixirs. And from the thick, lumpy peel, candied fruits are made, which serve as an excellent seasoning for sweet dishes.
Clementines
They were first grown in Spain, Italy and North Africa. Clementines are a seedless hybrid of orange and tangerine. And this name was given to these fruits thanks to the plant breeder who raised them, the monk Pierre Clement.
Grapefruit
About 90% of the world's grapefruit crop is harvested in America. Two varieties can be seen on sale all year round. White Florida Duncan has a tart taste, so his juice is mainly used. Pink Texan Pink, on the other hand, tastes sweet. These juicy fruits, rich in vitamins, are a great addition to breakfast and are popular as a garnish for grilled and boiled dishes.
Orange
There are more than 100 different types of orange fruit, which are native to China. However, southern oranges are especially popular because they can be used in a wide variety of ways. In juice, marmalade or confiture, salad or sauce (especially delicious with poultry dishes) - they always give food a unique and refined taste.
Lime
The homeland of this small fruit with thin skin is India. It is now also grown in Central America and Florida. Lime is the closest relative of lemon and therefore often replaces it.
Lemon
This widely used fruit was born in India. Now it is grown in Italy, Spain, California and Florida. Lemon gives a special aroma and flavor to sauces, creams and pies. And if you sprinkle the cut fruit with lemon juice a little, then they will not brown in the air.
Candied lemon
Unlike other citrus fruits, candied lemon is not grown for juice or fruit pulp. The main thing in this fruit is the peel. It is very thick and has a particularly strong aroma. The zest contains an essential oil, which is primarily used in the food industry in the manufacture of sweets, as well as in perfumery and pharmaceuticals. Unlike lemon, which can be bought all year round, candied lemon is very rare on sale.
