Salted herring is a simple and tasty snack for all occasions. It can be used as an independent dish, as well as added to salads and sandwiches. The Dutch salted herring recipe is useful for every housewife.
Ingredients for making salted herring:
- 2 herrings (fresh frozen);
- 1-2 onions;
- lemon;
- 5-6 teaspoons of sugar;
- 4-5 teaspoons of salt;
- 10 pieces of bay leaves;
- 1 carrot;
- a teaspoon of coarsely ground black pepper.
Cooking salted herring in Dutch style:
1. For salting, you need to take two cans with a volume of 0.5 liters.
2. Prepare the fish: remove the entrails, cut off the fins, wash and cut into small pieces. You can only take fillets.
3. Wash the carrots, peel off the peel and grate coarsely.
4. Cut the lemon into thin slices together with the peel.
5. Cut the onion thinly, in half rings.
6. At the bottom of each jar put a little onion, carrots, 0.5 teaspoons of sugar and salt, bay leaf, lemon, pepper.
7. Then put a layer of fish pieces. Alternate layers, lightly pressing down with your hand. Fill both jars in this way and close the lids.
8. Put in the refrigerator for 2-3 days, periodically shake the jars gently. After 2, 5-3 days, an excellent tender and spicy herring will be ready to eat.
