Sugar has been familiar to man since ancient times. It was made from sugar cane, maple sap, beets, and so on. Sugar is divided into several types. It can be found both in a free-flowing state (granulated sugar) and in a solid state (lumpy, chipped, sawn, candy, stone). There are different storage methods depending on the type of sugar.

Instructions

Step 1

It is not recommended to store sugar unopened (in a box, bag, etc.) in rooms with high humidity or near water. Sugar is a highly hygroscopic substance, so it absorbs moisture and begins to clump, stick together into dense lumps. This is especially true for bulk types of sugar: friable, crushed, granulated, ground sugar or granulated sugar and powder. Store such sugar either in a dry place away from water, or in an airtight container (plastic container or glass jar with a tight-fitting lid).

Step 2

Solid types of sugar (especially candy and stone) are less afraid of wet rooms than granulated sugar. They are not hygroscopic. Since outwardly such sugar is very similar to caramel and is very hard translucent crystals. But when liquid gets in, it starts to dissolve. So to store it, choose a place that is not in contact with water. Tightness during storage is not a prerequisite, you just need to protect the sugar from direct ingress of water and high temperatures.

Step 3

It is also not advisable to store sugar near things and products that have unpleasant, sharp or simply strong odors. Bulk sugars easily absorb not only water, but also foreign aromas. An elementary solution is the same sealed container or packaging. A lidded glass jar or plastic container must be odor-free. If you have already used a jar (container) for storing another strong-smelling product, and it is saturated with its smell, then you should not use it for storing sugar. Allocate a separate dish for him.

Step 4

It is sometimes recommended to shake loose granulated sugar or powder a little. This is necessary so that the sugar compacted under its own weight is not compressed.
