Many people have heard about the beneficial properties of kelp, or, as it is called in Russia, seaweed. Its use can be compared to taking a safe medicine.
The composition of kelp contains a set of substances necessary for the human body: amino acids, alginates, which contribute to the binding in the digestive system of toxins harmful to humans, cholesterol. Thanks to this property of alginates, the body is cleansed, the functioning of the immune system is normalized. This wonderful plant contains another "cholesterol remover" - sterol, it helps the blood vessels stay young and clean.
Long-term observations and studies have proved that the inhabitants of China and Japan, living in their countries and having a centuries-old culture of consuming seaweed, suffer from atherosclerosis 10 times less often than their fellow countrymen who left for permanent residence in Western countries. Sterols prevent thrombosis, increase blood viscosity, normalize the cardiovascular system. Polyunsaturated acids contained in kelp help to strengthen blood vessels.
Seaweed, however, like all seafood, is rich in iodine, which is necessary for the functioning of the thyroid gland and, in general, the entire human endocrine system. This seaweed contains many vitamins and minerals. If we compare it with white cabbage, which also has a lot of useful properties, then the composition of kelp contains an order of magnitude more magnesium, iron and phosphorus.
A complex set of vitamins normalizes metabolism, promotes the production of immune cells. This product has earned great respect among lovers of healthy food. Having a very low calorie content, kelp is able to increase its volume while in the stomach, which helps to reduce the portion of the food eaten, and gives a feeling of quick satiety. The presence of a mild laxative effect helps to cope with certain types of constipation, so the use of this product is recommended for some disorders in the digestive tract.
These algae have a specific flavor and should not be added to food during cooking. Best used as an ingredient in a variety of salads. In the trade, kelp is presented in dried, frozen, canned forms.
