Sometimes there is neither the strength nor the desire to stand at the stove for a long time, despite the pleas of the household to feed them a delicious dinner. In such situations, an old and time-tested recipe for potatoes baked with lard comes to the rescue.
You don't have to look for tricky recipes to make a quick meal. You can feed your family tasty and satisfying food with a simple and well-known dish to the Russian people - baked potatoes with bacon. To prepare, you need a minimum of ingredients, time and participation. In addition, by baking potatoes in the oven, you can easily get rid of the remnants of vegetables and other products that have lingered in the refrigerator.
So, first you need to peel the tubers and rinse them in water. The number of potatoes should be chosen based on the size of the baking sheet, but a little more is better than less. You will also need to peel a couple of medium onions and wash a medium bunch of parsley and dill. If you plan to dispose of vegetables by baking, they will also have to be prepared: peel, cut off spoiled places and wash well.
Lard for potatoes usually does not have to be chosen, but if such an opportunity has already appeared, it is better to take it with a thin slot, the amount of meat in the cut should be no more than a third. Lard should be soaked in water for 10 minutes, washed and cut into large chunks. Put the slices in a small bowl, pepper and salt, add a couple of finely chopped garlic cloves and leave for 15-20 minutes.
Lard can not be chopped finely, but stuffed with garlic and overlaid with potatoes on a baking sheet. In this case, serving the dish to the table will be more effective, but it is not recommended to cut the potatoes finely.
You can cut potatoes in different ways: slices, cubes, you can simply divide large tubers in half. There is only one condition: the larger the pieces, the longer the dish will bake. When slicing, you must also focus on the depth of the baking sheet. At the bottom of the container in which you plan to bake potatoes, you need to pour one or two tablespoons of vegetable oil and carefully spread it over the surface. Put half of the chopped bacon in a baking sheet and spread over the area. A layer of onion is laid out on top, cut into half rings of medium thickness. Next comes the turn of the potatoes: they also need to be evenly distributed so that the thickness is the same in all places. The top layer of potatoes should be mixed with lard and sprinkled with chopped herbs. Such a "pie" can already be put in an oven preheated to 200 ° C for 40-50 minutes, but it will turn out much tastier if you show your imagination: add a cap of chopped vegetables on top, pour an egg whipped with mayonnaise on the potatoes, add grated cheese.
When the potatoes are baked in a baking sheet, it is better to cover them with a sleeve or foil so that the top layer does not burn. 15 minutes before readiness, the coating is removed: excess moisture immediately leaves, but an appetizing brown crust appears.
In the absence of a baking sheet, potatoes can be cooked much faster: the tubers must be thoroughly washed without peeling and a longitudinal cut must be made in each, into which a slice of bacon, a piece of garlic, salt and black pepper are put. When baked, the potatoes will absorb the aroma; all that remains is to peel and serve with vegetable salad or canned vegetables. Pickled or smoked fish goes well with such a potato dish.
