In summer, many people like to feast on juicy watermelon pulp, but watermelon peels are often sent to the trash can. But you can make delicious jam from the crusts or prepare an interesting spicy snack.

It is necessary

  • For four servings:
  • - 3 liters of water;
  • - 6 glasses of watermelon peels;
  • - a glass of apple cider vinegar;
  • - a glass of sugar;
  • - salt, celery seeds, ground ginger, turmeric, dry mustard.

Instructions

Step 1

Cut the watermelon rind into very thin strips. Do not cut the green part - use only the white part of the crusts, it will make a soft and tasty snack.

Step 2

Boil three liters of water in a saucepan, add watermelon crusts to it, cook for three minutes. Then drain the water.

Step 3

Pour sugar, vinegar, mustard, ginger, turmeric, salt, celery seeds into a frying pan. The amount of spices is at your discretion. Pour some water into the spice, bring to a boil. Reduce heat, simmer for a couple of minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 4

Place the watermelon strips in the skillet and cook for half an hour, uncovered. All liquid should evaporate.

Step 5

Chill the spicy snack, transfer to a container with an airtight lid. This original appetizer of watermelon peels with a unique aroma of spices can be served with fish or ham.
