Herring pie is an unusually tasty dish that will appeal to all households and guests. Such pastries will become a favorite delicacy, and it is not so difficult to cook them, and the aroma coming from the kitchen will gather the whole family at the table.

Step 1
The first step is to properly prepare the dough for the pie (you can, of course, already buy the ready-made dough in the store, but the pie made from homemade dough will turn out much tastier). Take an enamel or plastic dish and pour in warm milk. Dissolve dry yeast, granulated sugar, salt and vegetable oil in it. Mix all the ingredients well and leave to ferment with a clean towel over the crockery. Wait for the yeast to start bubbling.
Step 2
Next, you need to knead the dough. Sift the flour twice, holding the sieve high above the table top. The flour will be saturated with oxygen, and the dough will rise better. Put it in a bowl and cover with milk with yeast and other ingredients. Stir with a wooden spoon and then knead the dough well with clean hands. You should end up with a smooth dough ball. Place it in a saucepan or bowl, cover with a towel on top and set aside in a warm place, the dough should fit.
Step 3
While the dough is right, you need to prepare the fish filling. Take a slightly salted herring carcass, remove the entrails, head. Carefully peel the skin off the fish and cut off all the fins. Separate the herring fillets from the bones. If possible, try to get rid of all the bones so that they do not come across to you in the finished cake. Cut the herring into medium pieces.
Step 4
Peel one large onion, chop finely with a sharp knife. Then heat a skillet with a little vegetable oil, add the onion and fry a little. Chop the cabbage finely and send it to the pan with the onion, fry until cooked. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Step 5
When the dough rises, becomes twice as large, carefully put it on the table, previously greased with vegetable oil. Use a rolling pin to roll it into a rectangle. It is desirable that the middle is slightly thicker than the edges. Place the prepared filling in the middle of the dough. First, fried cabbage with onions is laid out, on top of herring in slices. Starting at the edges, make cuts about three centimeters wide. Then fold the overlap with a pigtail over the filling (you can just close the pie in a way that suits you).
Step 6
Prove the cake for twenty minutes. During this time, preheat the oven to two hundred degrees. Brush the pie with a scrambled egg and send to the oven until cooked, it should turn out to be browned. Put the finished cake on a beautiful dish, brush with butter, cover with a towel and let it rest for fifteen minutes. Then boldly cut into slices and serve.
