Puff tubes with filler can also be made at home. It's not difficult at all - you need to stock up on food and some equipment.
For the preparation of puff tubes in production conditions, metal or tin cones are used. When going to make a cake-tube at home, housewives first of all are faced with the need to purchase such products. Not so long ago, finding them was quite easy - cones were sold in all hardware stores. If you wish, you can make homemade cones from available materials.
How to make your own cones for making straws
Using common tools like a hammer and pliers, you can make pretty cones. Well-washed cans from stew or condensed milk are suitable as material for them. Such cones will last for more than a dozen years. They don't even have to be fixed well - just roll up to the desired shape. Deformation in the conditions where the products will be used does not threaten them.
If this option is unavailable, cones can be made from cardboard or office paper and ordinary food foil. Roll a sheet of cardboard or paper into a bag, cut off the sharp part of it and fix it with a stapler so that it does not turn around. You can sew this place with threads, but not through and through, but only on the side where the paper ends. Wrap the resulting cone with aluminum foil.
How to make straws on homemade cones
When the work on the cone blanks is finally finished, you can start making the tubes. Buy or make puff pastry at home. Roll it out gently to a thickness of 5 mm. Cut into strips - they should be about 3 cm thick and 30-40 cm long. Wrap the strips of dough over the cones with an overlap. Prepare a baking sheet - line it with parchment or dampen it with water, depending on the material.
Place the future straws on a baking sheet, the seam of the dough should be at the bottom. The tubes are best baked according to the following scheme. Place the baking sheet in an oven preheated to 240 degrees Celsius, hold for 10 minutes, then reduce the temperature - it should be 160 degrees. Bake the straws for another 20 minutes. They must be removed from the cones hot - use oven mitts. Sometimes the tubes are damp inside. If necessary, you can dry them in the oven without cones - put them in the oven for another 10 minutes and keep them at 60 degrees.
Do not disassemble or discard the cones made before preparing the straws. If you are fond of making homemade cakes, they will come in handy more than once.
