Strokh rum is popular in the world, but in Russia only connoisseurs and travelers know it. The correct name for this drink is "shtro", it is a very strong rum, flavored with spices and herbs.
It is believed that Rum Strokh began to be produced in 1832 by the Austrian Sebastian Stroh. On the territory of Austria-Hungary, where Mr. Stro lived, there was no opportunity to purchase spicy ingredients that were mined in overseas colonies with a tropical climate. Austria had no colonies, so Stroh began experimenting with various available spices and food colors, which he dissolved in an alcohol base, thus trying to get the flavor of tropical sugar cane. This experiment was a success, and Mr. Stroh became the only producer of Austrian rum. Subsequently, available sugarcane waste was used to make the drink.
Manufacturing technology
The very technology of making rum is quite simple, the wort is made from sweet cane and kept in oak barrels for at least three years. Of course, manufacturers have secrets that are inaccessible to a wide range of people, but that is why they are secrets that are kept in strict confidence. This Austrian rum is so strong that few decide to drink it in its pure form.
Over the entire one hundred and eighty years of the existence of the production, Stro rum began to be produced in three types with different alcohol content. These can be drinks with 80, 60 and 40 degree alcohol content. Usually this drink is used for making cocktails. In everyday life, Stroh rum is used in confectionery; rum is added to baking dough and fillings. It is also part of such hot drinks as grog and punch.
Classic recipes
Tourists visiting Austria are sure to buy a souvenir in the form of a bottle of Austrian rum, which is produced under the Hunter's Tea brand and which is really added to strong black tea. The most common Austrian rum cocktail consists of three parts rum, two parts schnapps, and one part red wine.
Everything is whipped in a shaker, poured into glasses and drunk instantly, since this cocktail is very strong and does not involve savoring it.
Cocktail B-52, in which, however, Austrian rum is rarely found, is popular with visitors to nightclubs. The classic cocktail contains three liqueurs: coffee, plum, orange.
The method of its preparation is as follows: coffee liqueur is poured into the bottom of a special stack, no more than 20 ml of rum is poured through a tube, an equal part of plum liqueur is poured on top, and then orange liqueur. These liqueurs are contrasting in color, and such a cocktail looks very attractive. The cocktail is especially popular when it is set on fire. Actually, it got its name from the American B-52 strategic bomber, which dropped bombs. The effect of the cocktail is similar.
